Another weapon against amyloid.
A lzheimer’s disease (AD) is one of those conditions that, like cancer in earlier generations, inspires particular terror among the general public. Therapeutic advances have lagged behind insights into genetics and pathophysiology, and although -amyloid (A ), the product of amyloid precursor protein (APP) cleavage, remains the leading suspect among proposed pathogenic factors, its causal role i...

متن کاملInhaled nitric oxide: another weapon in our armamentarium in the battle against acute hypoxic respiratory failure in preterm infants
Acute hypoxic respiratory failure (AHRF) remains a significant cause of death in intensive care units. With the realization that pathophysiologic abnormalities in AHRF involve surfactant abnormalities as well as inflammatory and vascular changes, it is not surprising that nitric oxide (NO) has been investigated as an adjunct to the multiple ventilatory strategies adopted in the management of th...
متن کاملHMGB1: The metabolic weapon in the arsenal of NK cells
Targeting tumor glycolysis would hit the main energy source of cancer. We show that natural killer (NK) cells pursue this strategy by employing high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) protein-a well-known proinflammatory cytokine-to specifically target glycolysis in cancer cells. This opens up new perspectives for cancer immunotherapy.
